Will you be lost if you watch Revelation without seeing the original show first? Unlikely. Masters of the Universe was not that deep. All you need to know is this: a man with a skeleton head wants the secrets of Castle Greyskull, and a muscular barbarian prince with a magic sword won’t let him in there. Also, there’s a character named “Stinkor.” Now you’re caught up.

Buster returns to Babs, who is about to dine at an outdoor café. He makes a dramatic appearance, appearing to be pumped up with bulging chest and biceps. “Sufferin’ steroids! What happened to you?”, asks Babs. Buster flexes in he-man poses, and states he is now what girls drool over, just like on the billboard. Babs informs him that that wasn’t the sign she was reacting to, but the billboard below it, advertising a “hunk” of delicious carrot cake. She also notices that Buster is a fraud, pulling a plug on his sweatshirt that deflates his artificial muscles from an inflatable suit. Buster spies that Babs has one of the carrot cakes on the table, and grabs it for himself as some recompense for his futile efforts, with Babs in hot pursuit. “No pain, no gain”, says Buster, as the chase continues down the street for the iris out.

Junji Ito’s Uzumaki was first released in 1998. In basic terms, the story is about a town whose citizens fall into madness, represented by a growing fascination with spirals….they start seeing them on the walls, in the sky, on their palms. The word Uzumaki translates to “Spiral,” and yes, that is the reason why it’s also Naruto’s last name.

Disney’s Donald Duck and Chip ‘n Dale characters released their own interpretation of “The Chipmunk Song” (or “Christmas Don’t Be Late”) twenty years after David Seville and the Chipmunks changed the world of pop novelty music with their version. “The Chipmunk Song” then made its second appearance on a Disney record label for 1988’s Solid Gold Chipmunks, but this time it is not the 1958 Liberty Records version, but the 1981 version from the RCA album A Chipmunk Christmas, tying in with the Chuck Jones-directed animated TV special (more about all of that in this Animation Spin). The version of “Witch Doctor” is also a newer one, from the IJE soundtrack LP of the Saturday morning cartoon, Songs from Our TV Shows.

The prospect of an Alaska trade doesn’t sit well with the families. “I always wanted furs”, says Mrs. Bubba, “but not to keep warm.” Huddles is left no choice but to play watchdog over Bubba to see that he doesn’t succumb to his food cravings. Bubba insists he has will power – until he hears the primeval call of “Dinner’s ready”, and bulldozes through hedgerows and lawn furniture to get to the dinner table. Huddles has to concede that Bubba may be fat, but he’s still fast. But Bubba is in for a disappointment. His wife serves him a dish of – two vitamin pills. The diet book said only one pill – but she thought he might be hungry. Bubba starts getting desperate. He tries to take a quick chomp of Pom Pom’s baby food, but swallows her rattle instead. He sticks his fork under the table in an attempt to find the dog dish of family pet Fumbles, but the clever dog keeps moving the dish, allowing Bubba to stab the fork into Huddles’ leg. Fat Chance (Freddy the Fly. 10/17/97) – Freddy the Fly was generally among the weakest elements of the series, but this one is considerably more entertaining that usual. Modeled loosely to resemble Homer Flea from “What Price Fleadom”, the hobo fly is a constant aggravation to filthy rich Amanda Banshee. In this episode, Amnda finds herself out of her usual element and her posh mansion. She is in need of slimming down immediately for a society party, and motors to a luxury “fat farm” for reducing. The proprietor is one Arnold Schwartzenhagen-Dassen (mixing the former actor/governor’s name with that of a popular ice cream). Referring to Amanda as “jelly bod”, he welcomes Amanda inside. Used to her servants and total pampering, Amanda has her footman set her up a lounge chair, lawn umbrella, and ample supply of chocolate nougats with caviar centers – yet declares that she must be thin by tonight. Arnold seizes the box of nougats and stomps on it, then tells Amanda she must follow his three step program – “No food, no water, no mercy!” Meanwhile, who should happen by but Freddy, munching on one of the partially stomped nougats. He decides to stick around to enjoy the show.
